Whitley County Community Corrections
Part-time Administrative Assistant
Schedule: Monday-Friday 25 hours weekly
Hourly Rate: $10.00-$17.00 Hourly
The purpose of this position is to perform moderately complex clerical, recordkeeping, accounting and office duties. Work requires initiative and independent judgment in the application of prescribed policies, procedures and methods. Provides customer service by answering questions in person or telephone to all office traffic, general public, employees and vendors. Responsible for providing information relative to departmental procedures and referring individuals to appropriate source as required.
Experience and/or related education necessary.
Job Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
 Ability to be bonded.
 Working knowledge of and ability to use standard equipment including computer, printer, calculator, fax machine and telephone.
 Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile persons.
 Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to complete department reports within established deadlines.
 Ability to carry out and follow written and oral instructions and to present finding in oral and written form.
 Ability to use tact and diplomacy when communicating with various individuals, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.

Residential Work Release Part-time Shift Supervisor
Hourly Rate: $10-$17.00
Department: Whitley County Community Corrections
Shift Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of residents while maintaining security, safety, and sanitation of an adult residential community corrections facility. Responsibilities include maintaining accountability of Participants, assuring that all program rules and regulations are followed. Strong communication skills, ability to work as a team and alone needed. Ability to provide structure, accountability and support to offenders.
Job Requirements:
 Certification or ability to be certified in first responder/CPR .
 Possession of a valid driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record.
 Thorough knowledge of and ability to make practical application of rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Department and civil and criminal justice systems.
 Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile persons.
 Ability to work alone with minimum supervision, under time pressure and on several tasks at the same time.
 Ability to carry out and follow written and oral instructions and to present finding in oral and written form.
 Ability to work with others in a team environment and to work rapidly for long periods of time.
 Ability to comply with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules, including but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace and personal conduct.
 Shifts will vary; must work weekends and evenings
 Experience and/or related education necessary.

Whitley County Plan Commission member opening
Whitley County is always looking for civic-minded residents willing to serve our community. We currently have an opening for a citizen member on the County Plan Commission.
The County Plan Commission oversees land use policy including Zoning, Subdivisions, and the Comprehensive Plan for the unincorporated areas of Whitley County.
The Plan Commission is regularly scheduled to meet once a month, on the third Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., in the Whitley County Government Center in Columbia City. Members should also expect to commit time for reviewing information packets prior to the meeting and may have occasional special meetings to attend.
By state statute, the current open Commission seat must be filled by a resident of the unincorporated area of Whitley County, and must be a non-Republican (as determined by primary election voting records). The County Commissioners make this appointment.
To be considered for the open seat, please submit an interest statement that includes your name, address, and two to three sentences on why you are interested in serving to the Planning and Building Department, wcplanning@whitleygov.com by February 19th.
